New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet

Chevy day it forward

To celebrate the extra 24 hours we get this year on February 29, Chevy is beginning its first annual #DayItForward. All you have to do to participate is spend this Leap Year doing something nice for someone else. If you need a little inspiration to celebrate #DayItForward, consider a few of these good deeds.

Donate Diapers

Anyone who has had a baby knows how expensive diapers are. Disposable diapers can cost up to $80 per month for each child and cannot be purchased with food stamps. For low-income families, this means a baby can spend the entire day in one diaper. Plus, laundromats often won’t allow families to wash cloth diapers, so these aren’t always a good alternative. To help out families in need, consider donating diapers to a diaper bank.

Take a Hike

Many people take to hiking trails to enjoy nature, get some exercise, and escape from the daily hustle and bustle. Sometimes these trails need a little maintenance by moving fallen trees, restoring rock walls, or picking up trash. Some national and state parks have designated days when people can come out and help. If you can’t make it on that day, consider simply taking a bag with you on your next hike so you can pick up trash along the way. If you aren’t interested in hiking, you can clean up a local park or playground.

Help Out a Neighbor

You might wave to your neighbors every time you see them, but there are so many other small ways you can brighten their day. Bring their newspaper to their front door, or bring their trash can back up to their house after trash pickup. If you have an elderly neighbor, offer to get groceries for him or her the next time you go to the store. This is especially important if you know inclement weather is on the way. By buying some essentials, you know your neighbor can stay safely inside until the weather passes.

Leave Behind a Coupon

If you go to the grocery store and have coupons you are not going to use, leave them next to the product that they’re for so the next person who goes to buy that product will be able to save a little money. Or, if you happen to see someone shopping for a product you know you have a coupon for, go ahead and give him or her the coupon.

Pay for a Toll

Are you traveling somewhere outside of Daytona Beach on a toll road? Consider taking your #DayItForward celebration on the road and pay the toll for the car behind you. You don’t have to limit yourself to toll booths, though. The next time you’re going through a drive-through, pay for the order of the person behind you. You can also pay the fee at a parking garage.

This Leap Year, spend your extra 24 hours by joining New Smyrna Chevy in celebrating #DayItForward. These small acts of kindness can spread, making everyone’s day a little brighter. Send your tweets using the hashtag #DayItForward.
