GM Recall Information

On March 4, 2014, GM issued ignition switch recalls #13454 and #14063 relating to a range of GM vehicles. It is important that you understand whether these recalls cover your vehicle. If the recalls cover your vehicle, you should immediately contact New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet to schedule a repair.

Here are answers to a few frequently asked questions about the recalls.

Which vehicles are involved in the ignition switch recall?
The recall involves all 2005-2007 Cobalt, G5, 2003-2007 Ion, 2006-2007 HHR, 2005-2006 Pursuit (Canada), 2006-2007 Solstice, 2007 Sky vehicles.
Can I safely drive my recalled vehicles before the recall repair is made?
While driving your vehicle before the safety recall repair is made it is very important that you use the ignition key with nothing else, including the fob, on your key ring.
Under certain conditions, there is a risk that your ignition switch may move out of the “run” position. This will turn off the engine and result in a partial loss of electrical power. This risk increases if your key ring is carrying added weight such as more keys or the key fob. The risk also increases if your vehicle experiences rough road conditions or other jarring or impact-related events. Additionally, if the ignition switch is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy should the vehicle be involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury or fatality.
Will I have to pay for the safety repair?
No. New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet will perform all recall repairs at no charge.
What is the repair, and how long will it take?
New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet will replace the ignition switch. Although the actual service time for this type of repair is less than an hour, because of service scheduling requirements, it is likely that we will need longer than that to complete your repair. For more details, please contact the service department.
Will I be able to get a loner or rental vehicle while my car is being repaired?
Yes, this is possible. When you contact the New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet service department, be sure to discuss your courtesy transportation needs.
Once the repair is completed, can I put my heavy key ring back on?
GM recommends that customers only use the key, key ring, and key fob (if equipped) that originally came with the vehicle.
What does the following statement mean?
“We will work with customers on an individual, case-by-case basis to minimize inconvenience associated with the recall.”
GM and New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet will work with each customer individually to minimize inconveniences they could experience until the recall repairs are made to their vehicles, up to and including providing a rental or loaner vehicle, where appropriate.
What if I have already spent money repairing the ignition switch?
Customers will be reimbursed for prior ignition switch repairs. The letter advising customers that parts are available for the recall repairs will also include instructions on how to request reimbursement for ignition switch repairs they have paid for. Customers should follow these instructions to request reimbursement. Also, if the vehicle previously had the ignition switch replaced, it still must be replaced again as part of this recall.
I received a letter in 2012 regarding ignition lock cylinders. Is this the same thing?
No. That letter involved Special Coverage #12089, regarding a binding ignition lock cylinder. Special Coverage #12089 involved a different part than the ignition switch in this recall.
Will the recall be listed in my vehicle’s history.
Yes.
